Over-enthusiasm, strain, tension.

Vervain stands for the soul quality of self-restraint. In the positive Vervain state the person has full control on his passionate zeal to work. Even when he is imbued with a keen desire to work at breakneck speed without a break, his Superior Self holds him back for some rest, at times to recoup his energies. This prevents total breakdown of his health. However, in the negative VERVAIN state, the person loses contact with his Superior Self. There is thus no restraining force which can call a halt at any stage. By his nature a VERVAIN type is over-enthusiastic in his mission. When he works, he works non-stop. He is goaded in his mission by an innate desire to prove himself one up, so that others may follow him. He works at break-neck speed, works non-stop and ceaselessly without rest.

His over-zealousness is manifested in all his actions. If he has to drive a nail in the wall, he would not mind using a sledge hammer for it or use force far in excess of what is required for the job.

If he is working for a political party or some social organization, his involvement is total. It is often more than that of the person who introduced him to the organization. His over-zealousness sometimes runs counter to his own interest. When he tries to convince others in a missionary way-using all types of arguments one after the other, the other person may feel harassed and bored rather than interested, and there the story ends.

Mr.D.S. Narula was a man of principle. He did not interfere in others’ work but he could not be digressed from his chosen path under any circumstances. A true Godfearing man in a Government department where corruption was rampant, he did not accept any bribe and would not act as a conduit to transmit any bribe to his officers—result, he was appointed as an overseer and retired as an overseer. He could not afford to marry and remained a bachelor through out his life.

During the course of his service he had not created any friends. The contractors, his subordinates and his officers against whom he had been reporting for inefficiency and bribery, as a matter of principle, were not well-disposed towards him, although in their inner most hearts they feared him and yet respected him.

His integrity, truthfulness and fearlessness, his devotion to duty and a constant endeavour to improve his image so that others would follow him may have earned him their approbation and respect, but few would follow his lead.

On retirement, he found himself lonely and despondent. He was suffering from frequent heaviness of head, pain and stiffness of knee-joint, and a new fear assailed him—who would attend to him if he became incapacitated due to joint-pains. The thought irritated him and he showed this irritation by becoming harsh on his servant who had threatened to leave the job. He was prescribed ‘Impatience* for irritability, “Mimulus” for fear and “Rock Water” for his inflexible nature.

After one week ‘Impatience’ and ‘Mimulus’ were discontinued because his irritability and fear had become things of the past. ‘ROCK WATER’ was continued T.D.S for another 8 weeks, to remove negative-ness and fool-hardiness in his otherwise principled life. Other physical troubles like heaviness of head and pain in the knee-joint subsided automatically.

BACH FLOWER REMEDIES: ROCK ROSE – SOME PRACTICAL INSTANCES OF ROCK ROSE SITUATIONS

Some practical instances of Rock Rose situations.

(1) Terror in which the hair stand on edge, breath is constricted, feeling of goneness inside, voice choked or stammering.

(2) Child suddenly wakes up from sleep after shriek, and may start walking while asleep.

(3) The sensory nerves fail to transmit the effect due to panic i.e. eyes do not see while lying open, and the ears do not listen although they are alright, and the person becomes tongue-tied.

(4) The terror persists in bones of the person who has just escaped by the skin of his teeth from a very serious accident.

(5) When a person trembles on recollecting a terrorizing incident experienced a long time ago.

Case No. 1 : Neetu, 4 years old, used to suddenly get up from sleep at night after a shriek and start walking in sleep. The doctors pronounced it as nightmare but could not prescribe any medicine for it. Rock Rose given T.D.S. for a week kept the child free from nightmare during this period.

But there was some trouble on the eighth day, although the severity of the attack was less.

GENTIAN was given T.D.S. along with Rock Rose for the next 3 days, and Rock Rose continued for the next 2 months. After that the child was permanently relieved of the panicky nightmares.

In the positive Larch state, the man is full of self-confidence. Apparent difficulties do not deter him from undertaking a job. Even when confronted with actual difficulties, he summons the guidance of his superior self to get over the difficulties. He does not lose his poise or his balance even when dark clouds of uncertainty surround him from all sides. He believes that these difficulties are only meant to test his mettle in times of emergency and not to dissuade him from undertaking a difficult job, further more he is convinced that the obstructions in the way of life on this planet are very much in the order of Divine Will, and they are meant to be withstood or removed if man is to reach his ultimate goal of health, happiness and self-reliance. In the negative Larch state, the person is completely devoid of self-confidence. He is like a soldier who loses his battle before even entering the battlefield, or like a boxer who admits defeat before entering the ring. As a student he will not try to learn a new language because he is convinced that he cannot learn it, and he will not sit for competition because he expects failure. He may be quite fast on his feet, but his inferiority complex prevents him from running the race.

FUNCTIONS OF THE LYMPHATIC SYSTEM – THE SPLEEN; WANDERING CELLS

Although we do not yet know everything the spleen does in the body, it is nevertheless referred to as the largest lymph gland. It is located to the left of the stomach just opposite the liver, but has nothing to do with the digestive system; nor is it allied in any way or related in function to any other organ. The spleen is connected directly to the bloodstream and not to the lymph. It could therefore be located anywhere else in the body, the only explanation for its actual location on the left side being that there seems to be room for it. To this day, the spleen continues to puzzle scientists. One could go on living after its removal but the production of antibodies without the spleen would be so small that one could not survive a massive attack of micro-organisms, as might occur in a case of malaria, for example.

Lymphocytes and leucocytes are wandering cells; they leave the lymphatics as well as the bloodstream and, being so minute in size, pass through the capillary walls. Their movement is similar to that of starfish circulating through a coral reef. Whenever and wherever they are needed they are ready to attack, just like a special branch of the police. It is truly astonishing to note that they number in the billions, so that there are more itinerant cells in our body than there are people on earth.

OUR BLOOD – A MYSTERIOUS FLUID

The Bible tells us that ‘the soul is in the blood’. A poet of long ago also sensed the mysterious composition and working of the blood when he called it a very special fluid. He was aware of this long before his assertion was supported through the findings of various research experiments conducted in modern times. Still, it was the declarations made recently by well-known scientists that made me stop and think. They claimed that a single drop of blood reveals everything about the condition of a person’s health. However, a proper diagnostic method has yet to be found which can support this assertion. Scientists must first discover this before they can properly evaluate it. The method of blood crystallisation has already taken us one step further and certainly merits our attention. No doubt other methods will be worked out and the time seems near when diseases such as cancer, tuberculosis, rheumatism, gout and many others will be detected in their early stages long before the more obvious symptoms manifest themselves.

HOW TO OVERCOME CALCIUM DEFICIENCY (CALCIUM FOR CHILD)

As soon as the child starts on supplementary or bottle food, natural brown rice is the best foundation for good health. From this time on, carrot juice, which is rich in calcium and minerals and easily digested, can also be given. Later, almond milk with fruit juices may be introduced. Be sure to obtain healthy milk, whether it is cow’s or sheep’s milk. Unfortunately, milk is not necessarily 100 per cent safe: in many places the cows are tubercular and judging by the way they are imprisoned continuously in stalls, it is not surprising that they become sick. Good and safe milk can only come from cows living on pasture and under natural, healthy conditions. Sheep’s milk is better than cow’s milk, and if you are able to obtain it from free-roaming sheep, you will have the best milk possible for your small children. It will be richer in calcium and have greater nutritional value because of the animals’ healthy outdoor life. Goat’s milk can also be given occasionally, but not on a regular basis. ASTHMA – CARDIAC ASTHMA

Even though cardiac asthma has the same main characteristics as bronchial asthma, no abnormalities of the bronchial passages can be detected. Cardiac asthma is the result of a weak heart. If the left half of the heart is affected, this means an accumulation of blood in the lung. Should the right half be affected, the result is poor blood circulation in the lungs, which in turn causes a decrease in the exchange of gases.

The face of a person suffering from cardiac asthma has a bluish tinge, and breathing is difficult when engaging in the slightest physical activity. As soon as the problem has been diagnosed, treatment with cardiac remedies and medicines that influence the vascular system should begin. Instead of medicines containing digitalis, which tend to accumulate in the body, it is recommended that Convallaria (lily of the valley) be taken, in conjunction with sea squill, also known as sea onion (Scilla maritima). In order to strengthen the myocardium a hawthorn preparation, such as Crataegisan, is most beneficial. Aesculaforce and Aesculus hipp., both medicines that stimulate the circulation, when taken with a calcium preparation such as Urticalcin, promote recovery. In any case, it is advisable to diagnose the cause of the disease and then proceed to treat each patient according to his medical requirements as well as applying the appropriate form of physical therapy.

SKIN CARE AND OTHER PRECAUTIONS

The body’s self-healing powers can be assisted greatly by proper skin care. Every day brush the skin vigorously until it turns a rosy pink colour. Afterwards apply a good oil, for example St John’s wort oil or another skin care oil containing this ingredient. If these are unobtainable, you can use a small amount of a good grade of unrefined olive oil. It suffices to apply the oil lightly every second or every third day.

You should also take care so as to avoid cold feet. If they do get cold, take warm foot baths, massage the feet or help to warm them up by other means. Another important body function that should be given close attention is regular bowel movement. In cases of constipation, take a tablespoon of freshly ground linseed mornings and evenings. For really persistent constipation use Lino-force, a simple and reliable natural laxative. On the other hand, diarrhoea is not a good thing either, since it drains the body of energy. Two of the simplest remedies for diarrhoea are raw, dry oat flakes or Tormentavena. The latter has tormentil as its principal ingredient, with oat juice (Avena sativa) added for a beneficial effect on the nerves. Intestinal disturbances and fermentations can often be relieved and prevented by thorough mastication of the food we eat. So remember to eat slowly and to chew your food properly so that it becomes well mixed with saliva. This is absolutely essential for good health.
